The following lists some of the recent questions asked about working with CFEH by top referring optometrists. Please contact us with any additional questions that you have.
| "Sometimes I am not completely confident in my interpretation of a patients results that are sent to me by CFEH. What should I do in these cases?" |
The Referrer Advice Line is a free service for all referring optometrists. Simply call 8115 0777 to speak directly with a CFEH optometrist, who can clarify test results or answer any other related questions. We also encourage all referrers to regularly attend our SCOPE events which focus on the practical interpretation of imaging results, allowing you to make the most of the services at CFEH. |
| "Is there a faster way to refer a patient? Filling in all of their details by hand can be quite time consuming." | A Sunix-linked referral form is now available for download. Once you link the relevant fields to your own database, it will pre-fill the fields so that you simply need to print it out and fax to CFEH. |
| "I know that CFEH has a large range of instruments, but I'm not sure exactly what each of these are, and what information they can provide me with." | The CFEH instrument list is available, and we are currently in the process of developing an expanded guide on the testing available at the Centre. |
| "I'm not sure what to do with the report folders sent to me. It seems a waste to throw them out." | CFEH encourages all referrers to either reuse the folders in their own clinic, or to return them to us for reuse. If you would like to return folders, please email Jessie Huard and we will send you a reply paid satchel to return them in. |
| Patient Reports | |
| "How soon after the patient appointment should I expect to receive the report? Why do some reports take longer to be sent than others?" | The average turnaround time for reports is five business days. From now on, the Centre will email you directly if a report is delayed. This usually occurs when an ophthalmologist is consulted about test results. |
| "Can I receive the patient reports in a format other than print?" |
Yes, the Centre can send patient reports on CD as well as in printed format. If you prefer to receive reports on CD please indicate this on the referral form. Over the next six months, we will be investigating the provision of patient reports electronically to incorporate privacy, security and usability requirements. |
| Continuing Professional Development | |
| "I need CPD points, what can the Centre offer that is interesting and useful?" |
In addition to SCOPE events, the Centre will be offering top-referrers Master Classes (a small-group, hands-on educational session) and In-Clinic Grand Rounds (attend the Centre for a half-day to observe and discuss imaging with the Centre's clinicians). You may be invited to attend these CPD events through the new CFEH Partnership Program which will be launched in 2012. |
| "Are you planning to deliver any online CPD training?" | As part of the Centre's review of the website and electronic services in 2012, we will be looking at ways to provide online CPD opportunities. |
| Working Together | |
| "I like to know what's happening at CFEH, and how the services can help my clinic and my patients. How do I stay up-to-date?" |
CFEH staff are available to visit your practice upon request, to talk about the services available and experiences of using the Centre. Please contact Jessie Huard if you would like to organise a time for someone to visit. The CFEH News and Events page on our website and Facebook page are also great ways to stay updated on CFEH current news and events. |
| Building Your Business | |
| "How can CFEH help me to build my patient base?" |
CFEH supports the profession of optometry, and key to this is helping you to build trust and long-term relationships with your patients. In early 2012 we will be rolling out the CFEH Partnership Program. As part of this, we will be providing referring optometrists with a range of benefits to help differentiate and build your business. This may include certificates, plaques, point of sale material, online promotion and much more. |
